Arsenal v Everton Preview, Stats and Betting Tips, 23 September 2018
For the second weekend in a row Everton are playing the late Premier League game on Sunday afternoon. The Toffees’ fans who make the trip to London for the match against Arsenal will be agitating for a better performance following their first defeat of the season against West Ham but can Marco Silva engineer the improvement required to stop Arsenal in their tracks?
- Arsenal to Win and Both Teams to Score at 17/10 with Coral
- Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Score at 17/10 with BetVictor
Arsenal v Everton Preview
The dismay around Everton fans about the performance against West Ham was palpable, especially during the second half. There is no getting away from the fact that Everton were poor but things also transpired against them. West Ham could have been reduced to 10 men after a reckless challenge from Arthur Masuaku and Everton missed a host of chances.
Cenk Tosun has come in for most criticism for his lack of cutting edge but Silva will take some heart that the Turkish striker is getting on the chances created for him. The Portuguese manager will also take heart from the fact that Arsenal are yet to keep a Premier League clean sheet under new manager, Unai Emery.
Emery’s impact is starting to be felt at the Emirates. Slowly but surely he is building on the foundations laid by Arsene Wenger as Arsenal have shown some glimpses of excellent football under the Spaniard. We’ve also seen slight improvements in the Gunners’ attitudes, with the patience shown last weekend’s win over Newcastle particularly impressive. That made it three league wins in a row for Arsenal, a run which has taken them to within striking distance of the top six.
Stats, Injuries and Suspensions
Like Arsenal, Everton are yet to keep a clean sheet so far in the Premier League. Moreover, both teams have conceded nine goals already in their five games so it makes sense to expect entertainment at the Emirates.
Everton have had their injury problems recently. Although Silva could welcome some key players back last weekend Everton are still likely to be without Yerry Mina, Michael Keane, Phil Jagielka and Seamus Coleman while both James McCarthy and Andre Gomes are long term absentees.
Arsenal’s injury problems are all in defence with Laurent Koscielny, Sead Kolasinac and Carl Jenkinson out for some time yet.
Arsenal v Everton: Conclusion
Despite the recent good form there are still major challenges ahead of Emery. One of the biggest is juggling the demands of both domestic and European football. Thankfully for Arsenal, their first Europa League match was played at home against a Vorslka team who are a long way short of Everton’s quality so the Gunners should be raring to go come Sunday evening.
Everton, too, will be itching to put last weekend’s defeat behind them and should create their fair share of chances. It will be tough for Arsenal to keep their first league clean sheet against the Toffees but the home side should win so take the 17/10 that Coral are quoting on Arsenal winning and both teams scoring.
While the Everton players are struggling to score, nine different Arsenal players have scored in the Premier League this season already. Henrikh Mkhitaryan is among that number and after a decent start under Emery, the Armenian can score again on Sunday at 17/10 with BetVictor.
Obviously the best tip here is to join Betfair though. 30/1 on the Gunners is cracking value and with £100 of free bets on offer as well this is a fantastic promotion.
