McGregor v Cerrone Tips and Analysis

Conor McGregor is venturing back into the octagon after coming out of retirement. The Dublin fighter has been in the media in recent years possibly for the wrong reasons, and many people, including the big man himself, will see this as the opportunity to get his fighting career back on track following his defeat in October 2018.

The only problem is that his competitor, a veteran of the octagon and the man who currently holds the record for most UFC wins, is Cowboy Cerrone. Cowboy is a very dangerous opponent, not just because he is a journeyman with a wealth of experience, but also the fact that he has lost his previous two fights. A three-fight losing streak is not looked upon favourably in the world of UFC and it may be the reason many would suggest that he hangs the gloves up if he is unsuccessful against The Notorious.

Unfortunately for Cerrone we believe that this is going to be the case though, with McGregor coming out on top with a KO/TKO early on. The reason being is that the longer the fight goes on, the better the chance Cowboy has to get a win through submission, as Khabib Nurmagomedov did when beating McGregor through the use of a neck crank in round four of UFC 229.

Although all the talk from the McGregor camp is that he has limitless energy and that he has been working on all his ground work, they will know that the longer the fight goes on, the more chance Cerrone has of beating the favourite. McGregor’s back catalogue of fights contains many clips of him simply out-striking his opponents, usually early on in the fight and coming out victorious. We may not see a repeat of the 13 second triumph over Jose Aldo, but you rest assured he will come out flying.

Ultimately, we see a round one knock-out victory for Conor Mc Gregor, and a passage to take on either Jorge Masvidal, or the winner of the upcoming Khabib v Ferguson fight. Backing the win in the first is decent value at the normal odds but at 50/1 it’s a steal!
