Main Ante Post Football Markets and Betting Tips
We’ll look in more detail below at what exactly we mean by an ante post bet but assuming you already know that, here are some of the most popular ante post football bets you might consider ahead of the new season.
We’ll be adding dedicated tips and analysis for some of them over the next few weeks. As we do we’ll link to betting tip directly from this page so you can see if our tips match your own thoughts and then get you bets on!
Who Will Win the Premier League?
Betting on a side to win the league title is one of the most popular ante post bets going. Get your bet on in the heat of summer and that one single stake will, with a little luck, keep you interested through autumn, winter and into the footballing excitement of April and May.
Of course, it’s not all about the Premier League and you might also want to bet on the FA Cup, the Championship, or indeed just about any league or cup from the Conference to the Argentine 2nd Division!
Top Goalscorer Bets
Top goalscorer betting is also another hugely popular choice for those that love ante post football betting. Again, you can bet on who will be the top scorer in just about any league going.
Messi and Ronaldo might be nailed on to duel it out in Spain but in the Championship, Premier League top scorer and most other domestic top goalscorer battles around the globe, things are a lot more interesting and there is often great value to be had.
Often a player will spring from nowhere to have a great season and if you think you know who that is the value – and the odds – can be huge. Even better, you can enjoy them banging the goals in all season long and watch those odds tumble!
Ante Post Promotion Bets
Another common bet is for a side to be promoted. With most leagues using some form of play-off system this is a bet that really maxes out the value. Even if your pick is struggling at Christmas, a decent run in the New Year can see them nick a play-off spot, from where anything is possible!
Obviously this is an easier bet to land than for a side to actually win a given league but even so, with the chance of outsiders upsetting the odds, the payoffs can be massive.
Who Will Be Relegated?
At the other end of the football spectrum, betting on a side to go down is another very popular ante post football bet. If it’s your own side, at least you can take some consolation from winning a bet. On the other hand, just imagine the double joy of Sunderland fans who backed Newcastle to be relegated from the Premier League in 2016! Check out our Premier League relegation betting tips to see if Newcastle will do better this time around.
Accas
Accas are also hugely popular among those that like betting on football via the ante post markets. Popular bets include naming the winners of all four top leagues in England or the corresponding top scorers but you can create your own ante post acca from whatever markets you like.
If you think four is a big ask, why not go for a double or treble? How about Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus for a low odds banker?
Ante Post Betting Strategy
When it comes to strategy, ante post betting is a tough cookie to crack. Successful betting is all about gathering as much information as possible in order to decide if the bookies have things right or not.
Ante post betting turns that on its head and by definition you are getting your bets on before all the facts are known. The reward and payoff for this can be huge odds but, of course, as with all bets, this doesn’t always work out.
If you have a little inside information that never goes amiss, whilst paying attention to pre-season form, not to mention formations, is also wise. Following the transfers and speculation very closely also helps.
Ultimately though, as with all football bets, your ante post punts should be largely for fun. Few bets offer more long term fun and excitement than an ante post wager though, so why not get involved and claim a free bet or two to help you along the way?
Ante Post Football Betting Offers
We’ll detail any ante post specials that the bookie release right here. If you want to have a bet on Liverpool to win the league, or indeed anyone else, then the triple odds 888sport offer is great, whilst all our normal free bets can usually be claimed or used on ante post bets.
What is Ante Post Betting?
Ante post comes from the Latin for before the post and is a betting term that derives, like many, from the world of horse racing.
In essence an ante post bet is simply one placed before the market is fully formed, usually at least a day in advance of the event. Note that not all bets placed a day before the event are ante post but in horse racing ante post bets are ones made before the overnight declarations.
An ante post bet often offers better odds than a “normal” bet because all the circumstances are not know. For example, you may place a bet on a player to be the top goalscorer before the season starts as an ante post punt.
However, his club may sign another striker limiting his starts, he may get injured or even transferred to a different side. Similarly you may fancy a certain side to win the league and get an ante post bet on early. If they then go on to make a raft of top signings your bet will almost certainly be at odds much higher than if you had waited for the season to begin.
In truth though, for the purposes of this article, by ante post football bets, we largely just mean bets placed pre-season or very early in the season.
Nothing more complicated than that but great fun if you pick your bets well because you get 10 months of fun for a single wager!
