Carl Frampton v Scott Quigg Betting Preview, Saturday 30th January 2016
When these two fighters meet for the unification super-bantamweight bout at the Manchester Arena tonight it really is one of those occasions in boxing where either man could prove to be triumphant. Too often so we see one-sided contests in boxing these days and this clash should give the paying public a real, gritting fight that is not just a formality for one of the fighters.
Frampton might be the favourite – priced at 8/13 with most bookies compared to 6/4 for Quigg – but few pundits would be at all surprised if Quigg makes a mockery of those odds. Neither man has lost a professional bout, Quigg having won 31 (23 by KO) and drawn two, Frampton with 21 wins from 21 with 14 KOs. Quigg holds the WBA belt, Frampton the IBF. But one factor that does play in Quigg’s favour is that he is local – he was born in Bury – and he has boxed (and won) twice at the Manchester Arena previously.
Frampton, hailing from Belfast, has never boxed at the venue, and though this might seem a minor point, given there is not much to choose between the men in the ring, outside factors such as how comfortable they feel in the environment (and how the crowd supports them) could prove crucial.
One bet we are tempted by is that the fight goes the distance, with the odds on a decision or technical decision floating just under evens at present.
If we had to pick a winner we would just edge towards Quigg to get the win. He showed great skill against former champ Kiko Martinez, earning victory by TKO in the second round in the Manchester Arena in July last year; Frampton, meanwhile, was taken to the ninth and then the full 12 rounds when he faced Martinez, and there are some signs that Quigg’s dynamism, buoyed on by the local crowd, might just allow him to find his way through Frampton’s defences enough to edge the win on points.
Whichever man you’re backing, be sure to do so at Betfair and/or Boylesports for some top quality enhanced odds betting offers!
