Tottenham v Arsenal Betting Tips – League Cup, Wednesday 23rd September 2015
Spurs and Arsenal have made similar starts to the Premier League season, with the Gunners having won three, drawn two and lost one and Tottenham having won two, drawn three and lost one. But the form book tends to go out the window when these near neighbours and bitter rivals meet, and we are usually given games of football that have the neutrals on their feet and the managers ripping their hair out!
In the five matches these sides have played against one another in the League Cup this century, there has been an astounding total of 21 goals scored, while both teams have scored in nine of their last 11 league encounters (including in Arsenal’s back to back 5-2 victories).
In short, you should expect plenty of goals when these sides clash on Wednesday… but which side will prevail?
Well, had the match been played a couple of weeks ago, we’d have definitely plumped for Arsene Wenger’s men. But since a positive start to the campaign (which really began when Arsenal beat champions Chelsea in the Community Shield and carried on, despite the blip against West Ham on the opening day) things have started to unravel for the Gunners. Defeat in the first group game of the Champions League (away to Dinimo Zagreb) was swiftly followed by Chelsea’s revenge for the pre-season defeat as Mourinho’s men triumphed 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. So can Arsenal get back to winning ways on Wednesday?
Spurs, in contrast, have won their last three matches (albeit one of those being against FK Qarabag of Azerbaijan), and they will go into the game in confident mood. In Son Hueng-min they have a player who can score the goals that – so far at least – Harry Kane is lacking.
Overall though, we have to side with Wenger’s men given that his side possesses so much attacking quality. In a game in which the teams are likely to go toe to toe, we think the attacking options Wenger has at his disposal – even if he chooses to blood a few youngsters – will ultimately win the day. As such we’d recommend taking the enhanced odds of 6/1 on the Arsenal win.
