The Coral Million World Cup Competition – What are the questions?
Here we give you the 10 questions you will need to answer correctly to be in with a shout of winning the £1 million prize. As you will see, these are not easy… but then if you get them all right, it’s unlikely you’ll be sharing your million with many others, so it’s not a bad thing.
So here are the questions and (most) of our answers!
1. Will Lionel Messi score more goals than Cristiano Ronaldo (not including shoot-outs)?
A nice simply yes or no question to get things going. We think Portugal could build on their Euro 2016 success with a decent showing in Russia and with this likely to be Ronaldo’s last World Cup, we’re plumping for CR7 in this one.
2. Which team will be eliminated from the World Cup first: Brazil, France, Germany or Spain?
Okay, it’s getting just a little trickier here with four options to choose from. Obviously it rarely pays to back against the Germans, and Brazil are formidable at present, so for us it’s France or Spain.
Despite the fact that France sometimes shoot themselves in the feet at tournaments we think that their squad is so strong that they’ll do well this time around. Spain are also in decent form, but with Portugal in their group there is a chance they will only manage second place and thus a tougher route in the knockout stages, so we’re backing Spain to exit first of this quartet.
3. How far will England progress in the tournament? Group Stage, Quarter Finals, Round of 16, Runners Up, Semi Finals, Winners
Okay, time for a bit of realism – England are not going to win the World Cup. Okay, I said it. So, barring a complete disaster, it looks to us that either the Round of 16 or the Quarter Finals will spell the end of England’s Russian adventure. Let’s opt for the quarters… on penalties to Brazil.
4. Who will win the World Cup?
Speaking of Brazil, we think they are the team to beat this time around. After being humiliated on home soil by Germany in the semis in 2014, we think they’ll be doubly determined to go all the way in Russia.
5. Who will win the Golden Boot?
Here it’s getting tough, and there are loads of players who are in with a decent shout. Lionel Messi and Neymar are the favourites with the bookies at around 10/1 but we are opting for France’s Antoine Griezmann who did the business for us at the last Euros.
6. How many penalties – including shoot-outs – will be scored by England players?
This is anyone’s guess and it will rely to a large extent on your answer to England’s progression. We think they’ll have one penalty shoot-out and perhaps one penalty in normal play, so we’ve gone for a total of five here.
7. How many goals will England concede in the tournament (not including shoot-outs)?
A tough one – the Three Lions have been tight in qualification, but against the best in the world they could slip. Let’s go with five here too.
8. How many goals will hosts Russia score in normal time?
Russia have been scoring a fair few in recent friendlies and they will be eager to put on a show for the home support. On the other hand they might not make it out of the group so we’ll go with four goals here.
9. Which player will make the most successful passes during the World Cup?
Another very tricky one – essentially you might as well pick the main midfielder for the team you think will win the World Cup.
10. Which player will make the most successful tackles during the World Cup?
Go for your holding midfielder of choice and you could be in for a decent chance.
So that’s all 10 – get your entries in before the World Cup starts and we wish you all the luck in the world. If you use some of our suggestions and win the big million quid, feel free to share some of it!
