Will Man United beat West Ham on Tuesday 10th May 2016?
The romantics amongst us, and neutrals in general who have been rather put off by Manchester United’s dour style of play under Louis van Gaal this season, would no doubt love to see West Ham win their last ever match at the Boleyn Ground. They are taking up their new home at the Olympic Stadium next season, leaving behind them the ground that has served them very well since way back in 1904.
But of course, things don’t always go to script, and we can see LVG’s men spoiling the party on Tuesday night.
There are a number of reasons we think Man United will get the three points against West Ham. Firstly, they have far better recent form than the Hammers having won seven and drawn one of their last nine in all competitions – a run that includes the 2-1 victory at West Ham in the FA Cup last month.
Contrast that with West Ham’s rather meagre return of two victories and five draws from their last nine and it is easy to see why they’ve fallen away from the race for a top four finish (which, to be fair, was always going to be one hell of an ask!).
Slaven Bilic has managed to motivate his side to produce some big performances this season, but after the 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Swansea last time, which effectively ended their chances of a top four finish, we feel the Croatian could have his work cut out to get his side up for this one.
Of course, the crowd are sure to demand that the team put in the effort in the last game at their famous ground, but this might just result in a large dose of unwanted pressure and could actually play into the hands of Man United. Van Gaal’s side are adept at soaking up pressure and wearing opponents down, and we could very much see them spending the first 20 minutes making the match as dull as possible in order to keep the crowd quiet… not the most exciting tactic in the world, but invariable quite an effective one.
Add to all that the fact that Man United are still in the hunt for a top four finish. If they win this match and follow up with victory in their final match at Old Trafford against Bournemouth they will be guaranteed at least fourth – something which didn’t look all that likely earlier in the season.
We do think this game might see a few goals, and if you don’t already have a betting account with Boylesports you should grab the enhanced odds of 7/1 on both teams to score (while you can view the other main West Ham v Man United betting offers in our dedicated article).
For us though, the best betting offer on this game by a country mile has to be the enhanced odds of 12/1 on Man United to beat West Ham with Coral. If you haven’t got a betting account with them, this is a great time to join them as this is one of the best offers they’ve had for a while. They are also a great bookie when it comes to ongoing betting offers so they won’t attract you in with a decent deal then leave you with nothing to get excited about.
