Is Betfair a good betting site?

The short answer to this question is: yes, very much so. Here are some of the features we think make them one of the best online bookmakers around.

  • Betting Offers Galore – While some bookies entice customers in with a welcome bonus and then leave them to it, Betfair have a steady stream of great betting offers to keep you interested. In the past these have included things like odds boosts, money back offers, free bets when you back a 3/1+ winner at horse racing, their Bet £10, get £5 free bets and loads more! Please note that these offers are subject to change and to availability, with full Ts and Cs shown when you visit Betfair.
  • Great Betting Odds – Betfair are very competitive when it comes to the odds they offer. They are excellent for betting on the horses and they have been found to offer highly competitive prices on the Premier League, the Championship, League One and League Two.
  • Betting Exchange – As well as their conventional sportsbook (basically a normal bookie), Betfair also offer the market-leading betting exchange. Here you can both place and take bets, so you can lay a bet as if you are the bookie. This can give some very good options in terms of locking in a profit on a bet or limiting losses – and indeed just winning cash! The Exchange can also offer some really big odds, especially if you like backing outsiders.
  • Vast Range of Markets – Betfair take bets on just about every sport you could imagine, and a whole lot of other things besides. Whether you fancy a punt on the latest reality TV show, Brexit (!) or the next General Election, Betfair will have odds available.
  • £100 Of Free Bets – Of course, one of the best reasons to join Betfair at the moment is their exceptional £100 free bet offer they give to new customers. So get over there today and take full advantage!

Betfair Enhanced Odds – an Alternative to the £100 Free Bets?

Up until quite recently Betfair used to have some great enhanced odds offers. For example you might get 50/1 on a 2/1 shot. The maximum bet would be £1 and winnings would be paid in free bets not cash but even so, these promotions appealed to lots of punters.

If you wanted a small risk and the chance to get a big win, these enhanced odds offers were great. For many punters in that position they would be a better choice than the £100 free bets promo. However, over the past year or so, Betfair have decided to offer these less and less. In fact, for the 2019 Cheltenham Festival, Betfair didn’t offer any enhanced odds deals at all. On that note, if you are looking for Cheltenham offers, we’ve got loads of those!

Back to the issue of Betfair’s now seemingly non-existent enhanced odds deals though. For some time, there just haven’t been any. That means this £100 Betfair free bet bundle is definitely the best offer for joining Betfair.

If you already have an account at Betfair or like the sound of a big price boost, fear not. Other firms sometimes have odds boosts and we’ll have full details here when they are live.

Betfair Betting Offers, Bonuses and Promotions

Betfair offer about as good a range of ongoing and regular free bets, offers and promotions as any betting site out there. It didn’t always used to be the case but since they launched the Betfair Sportsbook in 2013 they have really been able to compete with the best betting sites around.

The exchange model isn’t as compatible with free bets and promotions but the Sportsbook, effectively a traditional bookie, means they now offer loads of freebies on just about all sports. Please note that, as ever, with all of these free bets and offers, terms and conditions will apply.

One of the best promos they offer is great for racing fans. Back a winner in an ITV live race (or other select, named race) at an SP of 3/1 or more and you can earn a free bet of up to £25. If you can keep landing those winners, you’ll keep earning the free bets, so this is a nice slice of extra value when you get things right.

More Places Each Way?

Another interesting feature at Betfair (more of a feature than an offer really) is their Each Way Edge. This allows you to alter the terms on each way bets. This is available on horse racing bets only at the time of writing and means you can opt for more places if you are less confident or fewer places if you really like your pick. The more places you choose to include in your each way bet the lower the odds, whilst if you reduce the places your odds will get bigger.

If you like the sound of extra each way places check out our 10 places each way golf offer post. Betfair are one of a number of bookies who often have enhanced each way terms for the majors so if golf’s your bag, check out this cracking promotion.

Football fans will love Betfair’s various promotions, with free bets awarded for near misses on match results and both teams to score. With regular free bets and money back offers on horse racing, golf, tennis, rugby, American sports and cricket, as well as for almost all big events, you can pretty much guarantee there will be something on offer at the Betfair Sportsbook to help tilt the odds in your favour.

Who are Betfair?

Betfair are a British company that have been a huge success since they launched back in 1999. They rapidly became the world’s best, biggest and most efficient betting exchange and for a long time they have handled more transactions every single day than all of Europe’s stock exchanges combined! Whilst they are based in south England they have offices all around the world and are licensed and regulated by a number of different countries, including Malta, Gibraltar, Italy, Australia and even the US.

In 2016 Betfair merged with Paddy Power to create the unimaginatively named Paddy Power Betfair. This gambling giant is part of the Flutter Group, the parent company now having their HQ in Dublin. Flutter own a number of brands but Betfair is one of the biggest and certainly one of the best. The joint expertise and deep pockets of Flutter (they have more than six million active customers in over 100 countries) means that Betfair is able to offer the very best betting experience. Their financial resources mean they can afford the best software, the best security and fund the very best promotions and betting offers.

Betfair has won a number of awards over the years and has been a huge success. Their financial position is sound, which, along with excellent security and a brilliant reputation adds to the feeling that Betfair are a fair, reliable and secure company with which to bet.

From the early days of the exchange they have expanded into just about all areas of gambling and so whether you want to use the Sportsbook as your main fixed odds bookie, the exchange to maximise your odds on long shots, or play casino games, poker, bingo, live dealer casino games, slots, arcade games or even pools, Betfair have got it covered.

Betfair Review and Features

Betfair really are a first rate company and one of the betting sites we use most frequently. They are masters of in-play betting, both on the Sportsbook side and the betting exchange, whilst both of these are supported by excellent live streaming options, meaning you can watch and bet at the same time. With a brilliant website, both in the standard online version and on mobile, it’s clear that technologically Betfair are brilliant and their mobile betting site is certainly one of the best around.

For odds they are hard to beat, with the Exchange unbeatable on long odds outsiders and the Sportsbook also offering brilliant value. All in all, as you will have realised, we rate Betfair very highly and with superb customer service too – by a wide variety of contact methods – and loads and loads of freebies and offers across all their products, if you don’t already have a Betfair account you really are missing out on a lot of extra value and a really simple to use site.

Oh, and did we mention that they offer £100 in free bets as well?!

Our Betfair Betting Diary

Betfair is definitely one of the betting sites we use the most, partly because we like the flexibility of having the Exchange and the Sportsbook. Partly just because they are really good! We’re going to put our money where our mouth is and put up some of our personal bets right here so you can see what we’ve been up to and what we fancy in the weeks ahead.

Note this isn’t a tipping feature and we certainly aren’t promising wins! Follow us at your peril and feel free to let us know your bets too on Twitter @BettingOffersCo!

Some Recent Bets

Ah, recent bets. Well, that’s been a bit tricky what with the current situation decimating the sporting calendar! Grrrrrrrrr! In truth we haven’t really had many bets at all and the only ones we have placed look like tying up our money for a long time.

For a long time you had to look pretty hard to find any decent sport, with a little global racing taking place in Japan, USA, Australia and one or two other spots. You could, and indeed still can, also bet on Swedish Big Brother if you want! And then of course there was everyone’s favourite new football, the Belarussian Premier League!

However, thankfully the situation is very much improved now and the Bundesliga has been back for a while. We’ve done well betting on that by backing away teams a lot of the time. Our hunch that home advantage would be essentially wiped out by the lack of fans has been proved right and as long as the bookies and market keep pricing games up like they always have, we’ll keep finding away value where we can.

The Premier League is scheduled for a return in mid-June, with top class football in Italy and Spain and hopefully the English Championship to enjoy too. We’ll definitely be looking very carefully for value on the visiting teams and suggest you do the same.

In terms of long term positions we still have a rather sizeable punt on Jamie Vardy being the top Premier League goalscorer. What seems like a long time ago, when this pandemic was all kicking off, we took the view that the PL season was unlikely to be finished. Vardy was available at odds of 2/1 or more if you got in quickly and given he is two clear in the top scorer charts that seemed like a great punt.

Time will tell and of course it now seems increasingly likely that the season will be played out. We could cash out for a loss but we’ve got faith in Vardy! Blind faith perhaps but faith none the less. Most bookies seem to give the impression that if the title is officially awarded to Liverpool then bets on the Reds to win would pay out. In the same way, other such seasonal bets should stand, meaning that if the PL is unable to return and this season is declared finished “as-is”, Vardy would make us very wealthy! If the season is null and void (what a shame eh Liverpool fans?) then the bets should also be voided so we won’t lose out.

What we didn’t, unfortunately, reckon with, was the power of money and the fact that the Premier League would move heaven and Earth to try and play the season out and avoid having to repay TV and sponsorship money. How could we forget that money is all that matters in the PL? As we say, time will tell but we still think it is possible that a spike in cases may mean it is not possible to complete the season. If that does happen, we hope our bet will prove a winner, whilst if it doesn’t, well, we hope our man bangs in a few more to secure the Golden Boot and land our bet!

What About Long Term bets?

A lot of people are probably wondering what will happen with their long term bets, such as on a team to win a league or a player to be top scorer. The simple answer is that there isn’t a simple answer. Much will vary according to what bets you have placed, with which betting site and, most crucially of all, what happens with the football.

Some sites have slightly different rules so the best option is to check out the sport-specific rules at whatever company you made your bet with. There is a decent chance this sort of scenario won’t be covered by such rules in which case we’ll just have to wait and see what the bookies decide.

Most talk within the industry is of bookies being sensible, reasonable and applying commonsense. It might be easy to say we’ll believe that when we see it but we suspect the bookies will actually be quite decent about all this.

Of course, if the season does finish, as now seems quite likely, things should be fairly straightforward and bets will pay out as normal. On the other hand, if it is declared null and void, that too should be simple, and most bets will be voided. We think this scenario is unlikely but if it does happen we fancy a lot of sites will pay out on markets such as Liverpool and maybe Leeds to be promoted as a gesture of good will.

The trickiest situation by far will be if the season ends now but they use current standings or points-per-game. In that scenario it really will just be a case of waiting to see, hoping for the best and if in doubt contacting the customer service team of wherever your bet was made.

In the mean time, stay safe and join us in hoping that we’ll have some decent sport back before too long!

Our Bets for the Coming Weeks

With a host of top class racing taking place this month we’ll be assessing our bets for the Classics closer to the time but our early feeling is that Pinatubo may be worth opposing in the 2000 Guineas. Aside from that we’ll continue to look at some away teams in the various leagues and also be watching as much PL action as possible in the first round of games to try and assess which of the teams look to be in the best physical shape. There are rumours that Everton and Newcastle in particular may be a little behind the rest so their first games back could definitely be worth looking out for.
