The Epsom Oaks kicks off June’s racing once again, with the renewal set for Friday. The middle leg of the Fillies’ Triple Crown is fought over a mile and four furlongs, and this flat race has over a quarter of a million up for grabs to the winner. The long-running race was founded in 1779, and it’s set to crown the latest winner this weekend. Who will follow in Enable’s footsteps and take glory at The Oaks?

Epsom Oaks Betting Offers

There’s not quite as much quality towards the top of this year’s Oaks, which is obviously not great for the race organisers. However, the race is worth watching on it’s on, and there’s reason to believe that the open nature of it could leave us with a couple of solid options to back ahead of the renewal at Epsom.

Wild Illusion leads the way with the bookies, priced up at 5/2 with Coral. Following two victories in four races since August, she’s seen as a real contender here. Even her fourth placed finish at the 1000 Guineas was a strong run in a return to action. We expect her to be fully fit for this meeting at Epsom, and she certainly has the quality to finish top of the pile here.

The lack of Aidan O’Brien’s Magical also helps out Wild Illusion, after the once favourite had a late injury blow days before the race. That has the Godolphin-owned course now the clear favourite, and we have to agree that she is the best pick from the field. We see her price of 5/2 with Coral as solid value this weekend, so we’re getting the three-year-old back on side.

However, we aren’t stopping there. We like the look of Bye Bye Baby this weekend too, one Aidan O’Brien runner who is going to be at the Oaks. She has a solid record of late, racking up three wins in five races. That includes a return to form in May, as a victory at Curragh was her first in 2018. While she made a rocky start to the new year with an eighth place finish at Navan, we’re inclined to over look that after a strong finish to 2017.

She can be found at a bigger price, clocking in at 8/1 with BetVictor. We think that’s more than fair, and recent form should put her a little closer to the top. O’Brien has a fantastic record here, 20 years on from his first win at The Oaks. He’s claimed six victories here in total, including wins in 2015 and 2016. If he’s going to do the same again, we see Bye Bye Baby as his best option, so that’s our each-way pick this weekend.
