What is Accumulator Betting?

An accumulator bet – also known as an acca – is a single bet that includes a number of selections. All the selections must come in for the bet to win (obviously some of the offers above will refund you if just one selection lets you down though!).

Placing an accumulator (or acca) bet can be very rewarding in that the odds are higher than a single bet (i.e. a bet on a single outcome). This is because if all legs of an acca win, the odds become cumulative, with the stake AND WINNINGS of the first leg going onto the next, and the stake and winnings from that going onto the next… and so on.

In this way, placing a £10 acca with four selections with each selection priced at evens (2.0 in decimal odds) would give the following:

  • Leg 1: £10 stake wins so you get your £10 stake plus the £10 profit, giving £20 in total thus far
  • Leg 2: the £20 thus goes onto the second leg of the acca, which wins and gives you the £20 stake back plus another £20 profit, so £40 in total
  • Leg 3: this £40 goes onto the third leg, which wins, giving you the £40 stake back plus £40 profit, thus £80 in total
  • Leg 4: finally the £80 goes on this leg, which wins and pays out the £80 stake back plus £80 profit
  • Result: £10 bet payout out £160 (£150 profit)

As you can see, the cumulative nature of accumulator betting can quickly bring you massive returns. Though obviously the higher the odds and the greater the number of selections, the smaller the chance of you winning becomes. Which is why we like the acca insurance offers – nothing’s worse than missing a big acca by one leg falling down, so these offers at least soften the blow!
