Liverpool v Manchester City Betting Tips

Liverpool’s last triumph in this competition came under Kenny Dalglish back in 2012 when the Glaswegian guided a side containing the likes of Charlie Adam, Luis Suarez and Daniel Agger to victory over Cardiff City. However, they did need extra time and penalties to do so with Steven Gerrard’s cousin Anthony Gerrard missing the penalty for Cardiff which handed the Reds the win.

City’s last win in the League Cup was much more routine as goals from Yaya Toure, Jesus Navas and Samir Nasri helped them on their way to a 3-1 victory over Sunderland after they had beaten West Ham 9-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals. They will be hoping that they can record a similar victory in this game and they will need to do so otherwise there will be some serious questions asked of Manuel Pellegrini.

That’s because the Chilean fielded a very weak side against Chelsea in the FA Cup last weekend and the squad numbers on show resembled a bingo card rather than a teamsheet with the likes of Aleix and Mnauel Garcia getting a rare run out against the Blues. Having prioritised victory in the Champions League and League Cup over the FA Cup, Pellegrini really could do with a win.

They will have the advantage of an extra day’s recovery on Liverpool however, as City played Dynamo Kiev in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night whilst Liverpool entertain FC Augsburg in the second leg of their round of 32 match on Thursday evening.

As for this match, we think that it will go to extra time with both sides cancelling each other out and we can’t see Liverpool demolishing City as they did earlier in the season when they won 4-1 in an enthralling game of football. However, whilst we think it will be a draw, we can’t see either keeper keeping a clean sheet in this one, especially given the recent defensive record of both sides and the fact that Daniel Sturridge has hit the ground running following his return from injury.
