Manchester City v Chelsea Preview
With Chelsea dropping two points at home against Swansea and looking poor, whilst City impressed in their 3-0 win at West Brom, we have new title favourites and City will take some stopping here.
Last season Jose Mourinho looked to frustrate their title rivals, especially when playing away, and defended in numbers, happy to earn a draw or perhaps nick a 1-0 win. There is a tiny chance he may try and surprise Manuel Pellegrini and City by attacking here but we doubt it and as such we predict a low scoring game.
Low Scoring Chelsea Games
Chelsea will defend in numbers, flood the midfield with energetic, defensive players and hope to hit City on the break but we think the Citizens will have too much and will nick the win 1-0.
Chelsea lost 1-0 to Arsenal in the Community Shield, whilst last season they drew 1-1 at City, Man Utd and Liverpool and drew 0-0 at Arsenal, whilst their home games against Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Everton, Utd and Southampton all saw fewer than three goals. In short, backing a low scoring game is an absolute steal at almost evens with 888sport (although you can get TRIPLE odds on any bet when you join 888sport!)
Chelsea just aren’t quite up to speed though and with home advantage and momentum we think City will edge this one, so those looking for a nice bet at longer odds should certainly consider 1-0 to City at 15/2 – or a whopping 45/2 if you go for 888sport’s triple odds promotion. Chelsea will be without Courtois in goals it’s worth remembering and that will weaken them further defensively.
Long Shot!
Our final betting tip is a real long shot. In a game where we think there will be few chances, backing a defender for the Man of the Match is worth a pop. Whilst we suspect Vincent Kompany won’t have too much to do at the back, he looked back to his commanding best against West Brom and scored a goal and in a tight game he could again be the difference here, making odds of 16/1 at BetVictor (review here) worth a cheeky fiver on the athletic Belgian to be MoM.
