Specifically, they’ve got the visit of Real Madrid to look forward to. Preview

The draw at Bernabeu was the first time that Tottenham had ever taken points of Real Madrid. That shows just how far the club have come under the tenureship of Mauricio Pochettino. Not only are they regularly competing in the Champions League but, when they’re on song, Spurs are capable of beating the best teams in Europe.

As you’d expect from any team who plays away to Real Madrid, Tottenham rode their luck a little at times a fortnight ago. Hugo Lloris was the man of the match in the away goal but the sense of frustration felt in the Real Madrid ranks may just play to Spurs’ advantage.

Pochettino has seen his team lose and draw games they should have won at Wembley Stadium but their best results at their temporary home to date came against Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund. They both took an attacking approach to the game which gave Spurs space in behind which they ruthlessly exploited. Tottenham fans will hope that a similarly attacking approach from Real Madrid will result in another huge win in front of a packed Wembley.

The main difference, of course, is that Real Madrid are a significantly stronger side than either Liverpool or Dortmund. Zinedine Zidane’s team haven’t quite had the start to the season that they hoped for but the two time defending Champions League champions are getting back to something approaching their best. That’s worrying news for Tottenham.

Betting Verdict

When the draw for Group H was made it looked like a certifiable group of death. However, the poor form of Borussia Dortmund has made life much more straightforward for Tottenham and Real Madrid who are both heavy odds on favourites to qualify for the knockout stages.

Deep down, both Pochettino and Zidane know that they can get out of the group with relative ease even if they lose on Wednesday night. That takes a little of the pressure off the match which should see it open up as the game goes on. For that reason, a bet on over 1.5 second half goals should pay out at 8/11 with BetVictor.

Both teams should get on the scoresheet but it’s Real Madrid who are most likely to secure the three points. They’re starting to click into gear and will be keen to remind Spurs that they are the big dogs in the group after the draw in Spain. So, back the away team to get the win at a generous 6/5 with Betfred.
