Epsom Derby Tips and Betting Offers, Epsom Downs, Saturday 2nd June 2018

The Epsom Derby is the highlight of Saturday’s racing, as we prepare for the 239th renewal of the race. As one of the most famous in the world of racing, The Derby will capture a worldwide audience, and handsomely reward the winner with a huge purse, as Britain’s richest race. But just who is going to tackle the middle leg of the Triple Crown this weekend? Ahead of the race, we have the latest predictions and betting odds.

Epsom Derby Betting Tips

  • Saxon Warrior To Win at 10/11 with Betfred
  • Hazapour Each Way at 9/1 with Bet365

Analysis

The Triple Crown has been completed just once in British racing in 84 years, with the last time coming back in 1970. However, there’s a possibility of a shock repeat this year, if the bookmakers are to be believed. The first leg of the famous treble – the 2000 Guineas – was taken by Saxon Warrior at Newmarket in May. Will he be able to follow that up with a strong run at Epsom?

Saxon Warrior comes in to The Derby as the odds-on favourite, so he could complete an impressive double this year. Aidan O’Brien knows that double, having taken Camelot to a victory in the 2000 Guineas and The Derby in the space of weeks back in 2012. He could repeat the feat six years on, with his Saxon Warrior priced up at 10/11 with Betfred (or 33/1 at Coral!).

The three-year-old has won four straight races, and he kicked off the year with that victory at Newmarket. It’s obviously going to be a big challenge to lead the way here again, but he’s also up against the same challengers as the 2000 Guineas. We can’t see any reason to shy away from O’Brien’s charge, so we’re backing Saxon Warrior at 10/11 with Betfred.

Each Way Derby Pick

Our outside pick for this one is the Dermot Weld-trained Hazapour, who can be found at 9/1 with Bet365 ahead of this weekend’s race (odds correct at time or publication and subject to change). That’s despite him starting 2018 with a victory too. He may not have run at the 2000 Guineas, but he did impress in his victory in the Derrinstown a couple of weeks ago, and that makes a strong run at Epsom this weekend seem highly likely.

That’s two wins in three races for him now, while a third place at Leopardstown is sandwiched in between. Even if he can’t edge past the widely backed Saxon Warrior, he’s still got the ability to impress at Epsom this weekend. You could overlook him as a contender for The Derby, but we see Hazapour making a push against Saxon Warrior this weekend. When you look at his price of 9/1 with Bet365, you can certainly see some value in those odds. We’re taking Hazapour each-way this weekend, as we can see him running the favourite close here.

Alternatively, you could just claim the 33/1 Coral offer – we might have mentioned it! Note that as an alternative Coral offer you could claim the Bet £5, £20 free bet. However for us, this 33/1 Derby deal is definitely the way to go!
