How to Claim Free Bets

Claiming free bets or welcome bonuses from bookmakers can be a great way to skew the betting odds in your favour and to reduce your risk. Here we have a list of some of the best free bets available online, including our choice of the Top 10 Free Bets!

We explain the different types of free bets the bookies offer, look at why bookmakers offer free bets and other promotions and explain some of the best ways to use free bets.

Whether you are looking for a “bet and get” free bet offer or free bets every week, we’ve got it covered right here!

Also check out the BETTING SITES we work with – all regulated by the UK Gambling Commission.

Stake Not Returned Free Bets

The opposite of the above, with these free bets you do not get the free bet amount back with any winnings from your bet. Which makes sense, right?

What is a Stake Not Returned Free Bet?

With a stake not returned free bet any winnings you make from betting the free bets in question are returned to your account but the stake itself – which was free – is not.

So, if you sign up for a Bet £10, Get £30 offer and place your £30 in free bets on a horse at even money (2.00 in decimal betting odds) and the horse wins you get a return of £30 (all profit as the £30 stake was free) as opposed to the normal £60 you would expect from either a normal bet or a stake returned free bet.

In the “good old days”, say around 2004, there were quite a good number of stake returned free bets but then the bookies realised they were being over-generous and now, more often than not they tend to be stake not returned.

This isn’t all bad though, as all stake returned free bets have wagering requirements before you can make a withdrawal and that applies not just to the free bet stake but the winnings too and sometimes your original deposit and qualifying bet too.

In contrast, with most stake not returned free bets any winnings from the freebie are usually instantly available, often making these a better deal in the long run and giving you a better chance of making some money.

Sports Betting Highlights – July & August 2019

Football fans rejoice when August comes around each year, as the month marks the start of the new football season. This year, the EFL Championship kicks things off, with the Premier League getting underway a week later. The 2019 FA Community Shield also takes place in August.

Away from the football, in the coming weeks we have Wimbledon, Ashes cricket, US Open tennis and the Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix to look forward to.

Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic’s run of success in the Grand Slam events came to an end in the French Open. The Serb was in great form heading into his semi final against Dominic Thiem but the Austrian came out on top of a thrilling five setter.

Even if Thiem had gone into the final as fresh as a daisy he would surely have found it impossible to beat Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard won a mind boggling 12th title at Roland Garros in straight sets and is understandably being well backed to win at Wimbledon at 13/2 with Paddy Power.

Roger Federer is another who is getting plenty of support in the betting at 10/3 with bet365. The Swiss has never found clay to be his best surface so the quality of his performances at Roland Garros augur well for Wimbledon.

The same is true for Johanna Konta who had never before won a match in the main draw of the French Open but played some stunning tennis to make it through to the semi finals. She should be even better on grass so is a tempting bet for Wimbledon at 16/1 with BetVictor.

Open Championship

The major season comes to an end in men’s golf with the Open Championship. The historic tournament is always held at world class links golf courses and there is a huge amount of excitement as it returns to Northern Ireland with Royal Portrush.

Portrush is a more than a worthy host of the Open which is set to host the world’s best golfers, many of whom are in very good form at the moment. With some stunning performances and storylines coming out of the first major championships, any number of players are in the running to make a run at the Claret Jug.

Rory McIlroy is one of those is some very good long term form and he would dearly love to get the win in front of a home fan. He’s one of the favourites but the 10/1 that Betfred are quoting still looks a tempting bet.

Premier League

The 2019-20 Premier League season kicks off on August 9th. The 2019 UEFA Champions League winners Liverpool are in action on the Friday night, as Jurgen Klopp’s men entertain last term’s Championship champions Norwich City at Anfield. The pick of the games from the opening weekend takes place on Sunday, as old rivals Manchester United and Chelsea lock horns at Old Trafford.

We have some cracking Premier League fixtures to look forward to across the month of August. Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Arsenal do battle at Anfield, and the Gunners and the Lilywhites meet for the first North London derby.

Last season, Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Man City were involved in a fascinating battle for the Premier League title, with City pipping the Reds to the crown by a single point in the end. Let’s hope for plenty more thrills and spills in the 2019-20 campaign.

English Football League

The English Football League also gets back up and running in August, with Luton Town and Middlesbrough kicking off the Championship season on the 2nd. With the likes of Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City and Fulham – plus several others – all battling for promotion, the most unpredictable league in the world could be closer than ever this season.

Slaven Bilic starts life as the new West Brom boss with a trip to Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, Fulham are at Barnsley, Cardiff travel to Wigan Athletic, and Huddersfield Town entertain Derby County on the opening weekend. Leeds, who are many people’s favourites to win the division, make the trip to Ashton Gate to play Bristol City.

They are all big games in the Championship, but the Stoke City v Leeds matchup at the bet365 Stadium in late August really stands out. Both clubs will be hoping to be there or there about come May, but who will prevail in this early-season encounter in the Potteries?

2019 FA Community Shield Final – Manchester City v Liverpool

Before the Premier League season kicks off, the annual FA Community Shield game takes place at Wembley Stadium on August 4th. Man City – who won the league, Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup last term – go up against Premier League runners-up and European champions Liverpool in the national stadium.

These two were the top dogs in England last season, and both sides would love to get their campaigns up and running with some silverware. As expected, Guardiola’s City are the bookies’ favourites, but the Merseysiders will fancy their chances at Wembley.

2019 Ashes Series

It’s not all about the football in August, as the eagerly anticipated 2019 Ashes Series gets underway at the beginning of the month. England and Australia rekindle their rivalry, with the First Test taking place at Edgbaston.

Over the course of six weeks or so, the two nations will battle it out over five test matches in five different locations. After losing 4-0 in Australia in the last series, England will want their crown back on home soil in 2019.

US Open (tennis)

The 2019 US Open Tennis Championship, also known as just the US Open, will get underway at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on August 26th. This will be the 139th edition of the hard-court tennis tournament, and it will be the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year.

Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka are the defending champions after winning the men’s and women’s tournaments last year. Djokovic beat Juan Martin del Potro 3-0 in the final last season to claim his third US Open title. Meanwhile, young Osaka caused a real upset in the women’s final, as she defeated veteran Serena Williams 2-0 to win what was her first Grand Slam event. Who will come out on top in the Big Apple this year?

Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix

The 2019 Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix from the Hungaroring in Mogyorod on August 4th will be the 12th GP of the year. Lewis Hamilton has dominated the early rounds; will anyone be able to stop him in Hungary?

Hamilton won at the Hungaroring last season, beating Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen to first place. As the Brit pushes for a sixth world title, the 34-year-old will fancy his chances of winning in Hungary for a seventh time during his illustrious career.

Free Bets – Different Types of Free Bet Offers

Free bets come in various shapes and sizes and some are a lot better than others. Clearly all free bets, welcomes bonuses or betting offers come with a whole range of terms and conditions that apply to them.

These will include that they are only available to new customers (i.e. those who haven’t already opened a betting account with that bookie) and that customers must be aged 18+. Note that all the bookies we feature on this site are regulated by the UK Gambling Commission

Here we explain everything you need to know about the different free bets and welcome bonuses offered by the best online bookmakers:

Free Bets Explained: Things to Look Out for with Free Bets

All free bets were not created equally and many factors affect how good a particular betting offer is. Probably the most important is what you need to do to get the free bet. Is the free bet added automatically when you make a deposit or only if you lose your first bet (as with no lose free bets above)? Is the free bet amount a 100% match of your deposit or is it only 50% or is it 200% or even higher?

Can the free bet be used to bet on anything or only certain sports? To qualify for the free bet do you have to place a bet first and if so are there minimum odds? Quite often bookmakers will only give you the free bet if your first bet is higher than a specific odds level whilst some even require that the qualifying bet is a double or treble. Restrictions on how the free bet is used, in terms of minimum odds, are usually less strict but it’s always a good idea to check the terms and conditions carefully.

With stake returned free bets you are usually required to complete wagering before you can withdraw the winnings. This is usually referred to as a wagering requirement or rollover. So, if you bet £10 at evens and get £20 you can’t (usually) just withdraw the money. The wagering is often in relation to either the bonus amount or the deposit and the bonus. For example if you deposit and bet £10 to get a £10 free bet and the wagering is six times the deposit plus bonus you would have to wager £20 six times – so £120 before you could withdraw any money from your account.

In addition there are also time limits to note. Many free bets will require that your deposit and qualifying wager are made within so many days or registering, whilst free bets themselves are often only valid for a certain time, often seven or 30 days. Similarly, for betting offers that have a wagering requirement you may have a time limit in which to complete it.

It’s important to remember though that none of these terms are designed to be tricks or to catch you out so as long as you make sure you have a quick read and then stick to them you won’t have any problems claiming your free bets and making a profit from them.

Why do Bookmakers Offer Free Bets?

Bookmakers offer free bets in the same way that supermarkets have loss leaders (products they actually lose money on) – to get people through the “door”. Free bets and other bookie offers are enticements to try and persuade you to try their product. If everyone only used the free bets the chances are the bookies would lose money as a free bet puts the odds in your favour, not theirs.

However, the best online bookies are confident that their offering will be good enough to keep enough players betting with them to cover the cost of the free bets. In that sense it’s just marketing and many bookmakers do actually allocate the cost of free bets to marketing.

Whether you decide to stay and play is entirely up to you. If you like to have the odd bet then the freebies are just a nice little extra. If you’re in this to make money then take the free bet and move on to the next bookmaker, and read on for our tips on how to use free bets to make money.

Using Free Bets to Make Money

There are many different ways to use free bets to make money but in actual fact they are all variations on the same theme. The free bet puts the odds in your favour and gives you a great chance to make money. Using free bets only, in the long term you will win, no matter what you do and here we look at some of the best methods of using free bets to make money, some of which are risk free and others which offer a higher reward.

Matched Betting

This is a risk free method of using free bets to make money and involves using a betting exchange to lay the bet. Say you bet on Liverpool to win, you would also lay the bet, that is to say bet AGAINST Liverpool at the exchange. This way your result whatever happens is the same and because you are using a free bet you will make a profit overall.

Gambling with your Free Bet

As said, whatever you do with your free bet, assuming you only use the free bet and then move to another bookie offer, you should make money. Think of it like flipping a pound coin and the winner keeps the coin. If you get a free pound for flipping the first coin then overall you will win. If you win with your first (paid for toss, the equivalent of a qualifying bet) then you will either be £1 up if you lose the second toss the free bet) or £2 up if you win again. If you lose first and lose again, you are just £1 down as the second toss was free, but if you win you are level.

So, the four possible outcomes are £2 up, £1 up, level or £1 down. Averaged out you would expect a 50p profit across the four outcomes. Thus, no matter what you do, using free bets you should make a profit. Even if you stick a needle in the list of horses, over time and enough free bets you’ll make money!

Other ways to use your Free Bet

There are various different methods you can use, either by laying just the free bet or just the qualifier and also using high odds for one or low odds or a mixture. If you want to have fun AND make money then simply betting with the free bets and other similar bookmaker offers and promotions is the way to go. Alternatively, if you want a guaranteed, risk free profit from betting then matched betting may be best for you.

Stake Returned Free Bets

These are often the best type of free bet offered by bookmakers online. It means that when you place the free bet, if you win you also get the free bet stake back with your winnings.

What is a stake returned free bet?

A stake returned free bet is pretty much what it says. A free bet offered by a bookmaker where you get to keep the value of the free bet if your selection wins. Most free bets these days are stake not returned, so a £25 free bet placed at evens returns £25, not £50.

If the freebie was stake returned you’d be looking at £50 and you don’t need to be top of the class to know you can buy more beer/clothes/holidays with £50 than you can with £25.

In the good old days (probably before 2006, give or take) you’d get stake returned free bets with no wagering attached – that is to say you could just bet the free bet once, often at very low odds and all the money was yours to keep.

The bookmakers are a bit meaner these days and so with most stake returned free bets you must wager the value of the free bet a number of times prior to being allowed to withdraw it (or any funds at all in most cases). There are also often minimum odds terms, such that bets placed at very low odds will not count towards the wagering needed to clear the free bet.

Betting Sites, Free Bets, Bookie Offers and Promotions

Betting sites are plentiful these days. This means competition is extremely fierce and hence the bookies must do more than ever to attract your attention and your business.

That’s especially the case for things such as Premier League betting, and betting on football in general.

In order to compete, bookies and online casinos throw plentiful resources into attracting you. That’s not only through their big-budget advertising campaigns and huge sponsorship deals, but also through a host of betting offers, promotions and free bets.

These freebies are sometimes for new customers but also sometimes existing customers betting bonuses too. All of these, if used wisely, help tip the balance a little towards you, the bettor, and give you a very real chance of making some serious profit.

So take a look around BettingOffers.co as we keep you updated with the latest and best betting offers, bonuses, enhanced odds sign up deals, promotions and specials (including the best bookies for high rollers) to help stack the odds in your favour and make a profit from your betting, whether you like football, horse racing, golf, other sports or even online casinos sites.

Type of Betting Offers

This site is dedicated to bringing you the very best betting offers relating to sports betting covering all the major sports. In particular we focus on football and horse racing, with the likes of tennis, golf and boxing thrown in.

Here we will details the main types of betting offers that bookmakers make available to their customers. Note that all betting offers, bonuses and promotions are subject to terms and conditions and these should be read in full and understood BEFORE you claim an offer. The full T&C are always available to view at the betting site in question. Also, we urge you to always Gamble Responsibly.

Note also that all the bookmakers we feature on this site are registered with and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission. We have also used all the bookies we feature ourselves and we only ever feature bookies we know and trust.

Free Bets and Welcome Bonuses

Betting offers available with UK bookies come in all shapes and sizes but there is no doubt that free bets and welcome bonuses are the focus of many a bookmaker. These offers are made available to customers who are yet to join a particular bookie and they are designed to attract new customers.

Of course, though these offers are generally termed ‘free bets’ the customers invariably has to make an initial real money deposit and place a qualifying bet in order to attain them. For this reason, under increased scrutiny from the authorities, many bookies have changed the structure and indeed the presentation of their welcome offers so they don’t give the impression that they are completely free bets.

For instance, many have introduced ‘bet and get’ free bet offers,  which does exactly what it says – e.g. you join a bookie, place a bet of at least a fiver and then you’ll be given £20 in free bets (18+, T&C Apply).

Other bookies opt to give a 100% matched free bet up to a certain amount such that you join the bookie, place a qualifying bet and, once that bet is settled, you’ll be credited with a free bet to the same value as your qualifying bet.

Free Bet Clubs

While most bookies offer some kind of free bet or other incentive to join them, there are a growing number of what are dubbed ‘Free Bet Clubs’ that give weekly free bets to existing customers. These are brilliant ongoing promotions that are perfect for customers who like betting a set (often fairly modest) amount each week and who would like to be rewarded for their loyalty of sticking to one bookie. Typically customers can earn a £5 free bet if they place real money bets of a certain amount (often £20) in the preceding week.

Enhanced Odds Offers and Price Boosts

Another common way that bookmakers try to attract new customers is through the use of enhanced odds offers. These are often offered to new customers only as an alternative to the standard free bet offer or welcome bonus. Often restricted to a small maximum stake and generally paid out in free bets as opposed to real cash, enhanced odds offers for new customers can offer stupendously good value such that it is often the case that the bookie is essentially giving away the free bets.

Examples of massive enhanced odds offers includes the regular Coral 50/1 Enhanced Odds Offers that pop up from time to time, often on there being at least one goal in a given game of football, or sometimes for their being a yellow card shown.

Price boosts are similar to enhanced odds offers in that they boost the odds from the standard price to something greater. They differ, however, in that they are generally offered to new and existing customers alike, they pay out in cash rather than free bets and they are far less dramatic in terms of the actually difference between the standard price and the boosted price. For example a favourite to win a given horse race might be boosted from 4/1 to 6/1 for a limited time.

Money Back Offers

Bookies who want to retain customer loyalty know that regular betting offers for existing customers are more important than welcome bonuses. Money back offers are a way for bookies to give customers something back in the hope the customer will keep betting with them instead of choosing another bookie instead.

Money back offers can apply to just about any sport or market, but the most common money back offers are found in horse racing (for instance money back if you horse falls in National Hunt racing or is narrowly beaten in flat racing) and football (for instance if a game finishes goalless, if someone hits the woodwork or various other things, varying from bookie to bookie).

Casino Offers and Bonuses

As well as sport betting offers, we also cover a number of casino offers and bonuses from the online casino we have judged to be the most trustworthy and well-run. There are many online casinos we really aren’t too keen on for various reasons, but the ones we feature on BettingOffers.co are all ones we have used and found to be wholly trustworthy. They tend to be the casino arm of the big bookies we feature, with one or two exceptions.
